Jammu, Aug 29 (KNO): Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam, M.Y.Tarigami has urged the State administration to ensure speedy restoration of power and potable drinking water to the inmates living in different migrant colonies at Jammu. The recent floods have created havoc claiming precious human lives, damaged residential houses and devastated the public utility infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu region has been badly hit by this unprecedented deluge so much so that there was outcry and uproar everywhere. People were crying for help, a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads. Tarigami said that the migrant colonies in Jammu especially Jagti Township, Nagrota Camp, Purkhoo Camp, Muthi Camp and other areas were detrimentally hit by the severe floods. The public utilities in the camps including roads, power, drinking water facilities have been damaged as a result of which the inmates have been undergoing severe hardships, he said. “The camp dwellers of Nagrota and Jagti have been regularly suffering on account of potable drinking water during annual monsoons and astonishingly no permanent solution has been devised so far to address this issue. Sizable number of TRT quarters in these camps, particularly in Jagti Township are in dilapidated condition so much so that there remains constant threat to the lives due to the damaged internal ceilings of these quarters,” he said. Tarigami exhorted upon the administration to take immediate steps to restore the power supply and potable drinking water facilities to these camps without any delay, besides formulating a comprehensive plan to permanently address the drinking water problem of Jagti and Nagrota Camps—(KNO)
